Description:
The Geography department is pleased to inform you that we are planning a residential fieldtrip for GCSE Geography students in years 9 and 10. We are taking students to the PGL Centre in Osmington Bay, Dorset. The dates for the fieldtrip are Wednesday 28th March to Friday 30th March 2012.
The cost of the fieldtrip is £174.00 and this includes transport by PGL coach from the Academy, accommodation, all meals, workshops, and the return coach journey.
Osmington Bay is close to Weymouth on the Dorset coast. It is located at the heart of the Dorset World Heritage coast, the 45 acre site includes a private beach. The dramatic coastline is perfect for studying coasts, which is an important topic on the GCSE Geography specification.
All the accommodation at Osmington Bay is in chalets, each with en suite bathrooms. Students will be in en suite rooms sleeping 4-6. We will travel to Osmington Bay by PGL coach, arriving at the Centre at lunchtime on Wednesday 28th March and departing at lunchtime on Friday 30th March.
Whilst the students are there they will be studying the processes that form the stunning scenery along this stretch of coastline. They will discover why these landforms are created and how human activities are changing this environment. They will also learn about how this environment can be managed sustainably for the future. This is a fantastic opportunity for your son or daughter to experience real world learning of geographical themes. It will also extend their knowledge and understanding of this important GCSE topic.
